Exercise and getting fit in Sanya

Ming zhu guang chang (Mingzhu shopping center)

Walk to the main glass doors on the street level, then turn to your left. You should be starring right at 2 sets of lifts.

Push the up button and head to level 7, the roof. Exit the lift, turn left and walk directly forward across the roof.

You will then see the old looking building with the gym inside. This is a membership gym, so you gotta fork out some cash.

Membership fees are as follows, current of April 18th 2012.

Day pass, ¥38

Month pass, 30 days, ¥380

3 Months pass, 90 days, ¥580

Bob the builder chinese style

So I’m getting a new kitchen bench, gas cook top and gas meter box installed in my home right and words can not express the shenanagins that the installers are getting up to.

I know this is China and things are done differently here, but even I would think setting fire to the wall in my kitchen would tell you things are not going to plan heh. This is probably what happens when you try and do welding indoors, herp derp.

So after cleaning up the mess left by goofy and his crew, today I get the kitchen bench chap in to have a crack at that. So far all good, think I’ve found one of the few tradesmen that actually knows what he’s doing, which is refreshing.

We still have the gas meter hose connecting bloke to come in a few days time, I’m just hoping he does that ok and I don’t get blown up in my sleep. TIC yo, (this is China)!

Tourist clothing in Sanya China

Chinese tourist clothing in Sanya is an oddity that is only specific to this town. When I first arrived and saw it with my own eyes, I wasn’t sure if it was one giant piss take or a joke that everyone was in on, except whitey.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then let me introduce you to the height of Sanya travel fashion.

Sanya tourist fashion clothing

If you buy a set of this clothing and rock it whilst walking about, then you are top dog. You are a fashionista, a somebody, you are the fucking dogs bollocks my son! Then when you go back to the mainland place you have come from and show this off to all your pals, they will be in awe. Dead set, no joke, never a dull moment in this crazy place which I love. :)

Chinese New Year in Sanya, cya next year!

CNY (Chinese New Year) is officially over (Year of the Dragon yo!). Mainlanders are starting to bugger off back home and that just leaves behind the Hainan locals, stragglers wearing their goofy tourist outfits and the handful of expats.

I don’t mind the swarm of holidaying mainland Chinese tourists, the money they bring and spend here supporting the local economy and businesses. I just don’t like the extra traffic on the roads they create, the “I’m number 1 fuck you” mentality or the arrogance that comes with that. Sure not all are like that, but a vast majority of them are, which can be a real downer at times.

But as I said, CNY is done and dusted and they are all heading back home again. I and the locals get “our” Sanya back again (if there can be such a thing as claiming a town as your own heh) and life can get back to a more mellow and slower, less hectic pace.

Back from hiatus, life in Sanya continues!

Spent a few months back in Oz so this blog slowed down to bugger all pace (sorry about that). But all good as I’m back in Chinaland again and have loads to talk about.

My adventures of living, working and being married in Sanya, allow you the reader, to get a through my eyes insight, into the crazy fun filled place that is China. Never a dull moment in this place that’s for sure and probably the main reason why I live here!

Start of busy season Sanya China

A busy street full of people in china

The busy season has just started in Sanya China (October to March) and all the main land people are on their way down for the holiday period. For the locals this is a two sided thing. On one side it’s a great time for the local shops as they can make good revenue for a few months and charge more then in the low season. On the other hand though prices go up and a lot of the new arrivals bring with them a bad mainland attitude.

But all in all Sanya is a tourist island and designed as such, so this is life. If you don’t like living here in the warm, relaxing (at times heh) climate, there is other parts of China that you can move to.

October is Sanya China rainy season

sanya china raining season

October started of wet and shit and now its more wet and shit if such a thing is possible. Just when you think it’s going to stop, it buckets down even harder. Feel sorry for the street cleaners and garden maintenance people that have to clean up grass, leaves, rubbish, etc in this poor weather.

I watched an apartment complex grounds worker create heaped piles of leaves, spending a good 3/4 day raking them into neat little piles. Only for them to be washed and blown all over the grounds again, not 1 hour later. Bet she was proper pissed off heh.
